Re: Rant: lisp is not C. Get over it.

There is Able , but it doesn't have enough easy keyboard shortcuts Could I ask what you mean here as every feature provided by ABLE has an associated keyboard shortcut? and doesn't have a debugger. (And you can't have multiple buffers on a screen.) As a plus, it is cross platform. I am working on a...

Re: Changing Emac shortcut keys?

Oh, that was a good introductory tutorial video you had. If you are going to make another video and you want to make it extra easier for the even more clueless, I recommend telling people what you are typing that isn't on the screen, like scrolling through functions to get mapcar, initializing hype...

Re: Changing Emac shortcut keys?

The only slight problem is that there aren't any menus whatsoever, but I suppose I'm not going to be doing anything sophisticated for a while, so it is a good complement to slime/emacs. You're the third person to mention the lack of a menu this week and the umpteenth since I removed them (I removed...

Another London Lisp gathering will take place on Wednesday 29th April from 7pm at The Metropolitan Bar, Marylebone Road (near Baker Street Tube). As usual, nothing formal is planned, just chatting over drinks. If you're in the area then feel free to join us.

Re: Rant: lisp is not C. Get over it.

Newbies are able to install the free implementation of Python or Ruby in Windows in a couple of clicks. The same newbies try to install a free CL implementation in Windows and spend the next day trying to get Emacs working with Slime and SBCL/CLISP. Apologies for promoting my own project, but this ...

Re: A good criticism of the comon lisp language(?)

Is the reason that Common Lisp receives so much criticism because there really are so many problems in the language that it stops you from using it or is it because people observe a resistance to change the language in the community? If it's the former then the criticism is justified, even if many o...

ANN: ABLE 0.19 + screencast

ABLE is a Common Lisp editor bundled with a compiler and a selection of open source libraries. It can be downloaded from http://phil.nullable.eu/ for Mac, Linux and Windows.

Version 0.19 fixes a number of bugs and adds a few new libraries. I've also made a short screencast of ABLE in use.

Re: Simplified CL

A small pet idea of mine for lowering the entry barrier to CL: Select a certain subset of the CL standard, throw in some utility libraries (alexandria, cl-ppcre, something for date manipulation come to mind), document it all in a structured manner and offer a downloadable core image. What do you th...
